How to Export to other Grids

Many designers get a license to sell my templates in other grids. It is easy to download the textures and the sculptmaps you get with the license to your hard disk and upload them in the new grid, but how are you going to export the flexi skirts and ruffles?  This problem is answered by Tilly-Floss (hjeidi Resident) creator of *Tilly* Casuals. She wrote this tutorial for Trendy Templates to help designers to get a good start in their new environment.

  1. 1. Importing a Flexi Skirt FROM SECOND LIFE INTO OPEN SIM THIS TUTORIAL USES KITELY, BUT SHOULD WORK FOR OTHER OPEN SIM WORLDS INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED FOR: FIRESTORM; SINGULARITY; COOL VL VIEWER
  2. 2. Outfit to be re-created: This outfit is made on texture layers (pants, gloves, shirt) and has a prim skirt created using a Trendy Templates skirt rezzer. Using the rezzer for the skirt means that all the skirt prims were ‘created’ by my avatar and are rezzed under my avatar’s name.
  3. 3. Rez your flexi skirt in Second Life All prims MUST belong to you (i.e. you must have made them yourself or via a rezzer) – this will NOT work for prim skirts that you have simply attached a prim of your own to! If you are the original creator of the textures, they can be exported along with the skirt – if not (even if they are full perm), they will NOT be exported. NB: any sculpt pieces, such as belts, will NOT be exported unless you are the original creator of the sculpt map.
  4. 4. In Firestorm (exporting): Right click on the skirt to access the pie chart: More > More > Save As > Backup Save the file to your computer. Note: if the textures were created by a different avatar (even if full perm) they will NOT be exported along with the object(s). NB: Firestorm uses a non-standard format (.oxp) for backups which can only be imported using Firestorm – xml backups which can be created using Cool VL Viewer or Singularity are possibly better for longer term backup.
  5. 5. In Firestorm (importing): 1. From the Build menu, select: Upload > Import linkset 2. Select your oxp file 3. On the dialog box, tick: Do not attach object Upload 4. Click the Import button The flexi skirt will be imported as a linkset (with the default wood texture). 5. Import/add textures
  6. 6. In Singularity (exporting): Right click on the skirt to access the pie chart: More > More > Export > XML Save the file to your computer. Note: if the textures were created by a different avatar (even if full perm) they will NOT be exported along with the object(s). NB: Singularity had not been updated since Feb 2015 (as of 18 August 2015) – for this reason I suggest Cool VL Viewer as an alternative as it has a very similar feel, but is updated regularly.
  7. 7. In Singularity (importing): 1. From the File menu, select: Import Object XML (NB: if you were able to export the textures because you were the original creator of them, then you can use the 2nd option to ‘Import with Textures’) 2. Select your xml file and open to upload The flexi skirt will be imported as a linkset (with the default wood texture). 3. Import/add textures
  8. 8. In Cool VL Viewer (exporting): Right click on the skirt to access the pie chart: More > More > Export > Backup Save the file to your computer. Note: if the textures were created by a different avatar (even if full perm) they will NOT be exported along with the object(s).
  9. 9. In Cool VL Viewer (importing): 1. From the File menu, select: Import/Export Objects > Import Object (NB: if you were able to export the textures because you were the original creator of them, then you can use the 2nd option to ‘Upload Textures + Import) 2. Select your xml file and open to upload The flexi skirt will be imported as a linkset (with the default wood texture). 3. Import/add textures

DO NOT EXPORT MATERIAL WITHOUT A LICENSE UNLESS YOU ARE SURE YOU DON’T NEED ONE. (no license is needed for skirts/ruffles made with a skirt generator that have no sculpted elements and that are textured by your own textures) More info on how to get a license you can find on the page How to get a license to sell in other grids.
