Creating Curved Lace using a Brush

0:40 Curved Border using the Path Tool

  • Open an Upper Body Template with a curved border
  • Create a  New Layer
  • Create a Work Path with the Pen Tool
  • With the New Layer and the Work Path selected click the Brush tool
  • Open the Brush Window (F5) and select a brush and set the size
  • In the Shape Dynamics Tab set the Angle Jitter to 0% and the Control to Direction [GIMP > Track Direction]
  • [GIMP > Adjust the spacing of your brush to 100%]
  • In the Paths Tab you can click the button ‘Stroke Path with Brush’
  • Remove the path
  • Adjust the position
  • Copy the lace layer
  • Merge both layers

6:00 Curved Border using Free Transform

  • Create a new layer with a contrast layer underneath
  • Make a rounded shape using a large brush
  • Create a new layer for the lace border
  • In the brush window set the size and angle
  • In the Shape Dynamics Tab set the Angle Jitter to 0% and the Control to Direction [GIMP > Track Direction]
  • Create a straight line for the lace [In Photoshop hold the SHIFT]
  • Select the layer and activate the Free Transform and Warp Mode
  • Photoshop: Custom > Arc
  • GIMP: filters > Distort > Curve bend
